GO! Middenschool Ninove
Team
Description
In the heart of Ninove, “the oldest, naughtiest and wisest of cities” (according to many history books), lies the ‘Ninove middle school’. In this school, pupils are carefully and lovingly guided in taking the big step from primary to secondary education. First, they are given a broad educational offer that stimulates them to explore what they like and dislike and what they are capable of. This nurtures them into strong and ambitious personalities who make the most of their talents. Then, they are given the best possible orientation in their future school career. Preferably in ‘atheneum Ninove’, which is a high school located on the same green and inclusive campus. There, they are further formed into enterprising and responsible teenagers who are prepared to tackle a job on the labour market, continue studying or simply take on the world 😉 And all that, topped off at both schools with a BIG dose of wellbeing and high quality education.
Structure
In Flanders, full-time secondary education is divided into 3 grades. What one can study in the 2nd and 3rd grade is divided according to study domains, finalities and forms of education.
- First grade: 1st and 2nd year A for 12-14 year olds:
Children who have obtained a certificate of primary education usually enter 1st grade A which focuses on ‘studying’. - First grade: 1st and 2nd year B:
Children who have not obtained a certificate of primary education enter 1st year B. This is aimed at children with learning difficulties or those who from a young age onwards strongly prefer to learn by ‘doing’.
After 1st year B, pupils can move on to 2nd year A (this is subject to a favourable decision by the Admission Class Council), 2nd year B or 1st year A. - First grade: 1st and 2nd year A OV4 + 1st and 2nd year A OV4:
This particular school also offers training form 4, in which the programme of ‘ordinary’ secondary education is also taught, but with objectives and support adapted to children’s specific individual abilities and needs. It is aimed at social functioning and participation and later on studying or working, whether or not with support. In OV4, the same programmes and transition conditions apply as in ordinary education.

GO! De Studio* Oostende
Team
Description
In Ostend, by the sea, lies a remarkable school, named ‘the Studio*’ with education based on scientific research. This is a place where the world of young people is used to inspire and motivate them to learn. School projects also aim to stimulate their entrepreneurial spirit, both inside and outside the school environment. In the Studio*, cooperation and care for each other receives a lot of attention, and collaboration with society is actively sought after. Critical thinking, being able to argue clearly and look at the world with an open mind, also lies at the core of this team’s vision on what good education consists of. Pupils are flexible and not afraid to speak their mind. In this school, 12 to 18 year olds are educated in, with a particular focus on languages, and CLIL, of course. The school offers a different teaching schedule and evaluates differently.
